BRIEF—Merck KGaA forms partnership for 3D tablet printing

28 February 2020

German life sciences company Merck KGaA has formed a partnership to 3D print pharmaceutical tablets with Additive Manufacturing Customized Machines, part of EOS.

It is hoped that this simplified process to develop medicines will significantly speed up the costly and time-consuming production process that currently exists. As a first step, the companies will look to develop the tools to 3D print medicines for clinical trial use.

Ultimately, the companies want to harness 3D printing technology to enable flexible and sustainable local tablet production, tailored to specific markets and adapted according to patient needs.
