Boehringer in collaboration to develop 'next generation' of COPD treatments

Privately-held German pharma Boehringer Ingelheim has announced a collaboration with a US medical research center to find new treatment approaches for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

The three-year collaboration with Weill Cornell Medicine is the second between the pair following prior work in inflammatory bowel disease, and aims to develop new treatments that could possibly halt or even reverse the progression of the disease process in COPD.

It combines Weill Cornell Medicine’s Department of Genetic Medicine’s unique understanding of chronic airway diseases and experience in the investigation of novel therapeutic concepts for airway repair with Boehringer Ingelheim’s expertise in the discovery and development of new therapies for respiratory diseases.
