Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard on Monday reshuffled her cabinet to bring in "fresh blood" after what has been a difficult year in which her government has languished in opinion polls.
The changes, announced by Ms Gillard during a Canberra press conference yesterday, increase the size of her cabinet from 20 to 22 and confirm Australia will have its first ever female Attorney-General. That portfolio will be taken by Nicola Roxon who once worked as a High Court judge's associate, but until yesterday held the post of Minister for Health and Ageing.
Ms Roxon will be replaced by Tanya Plibersek as Minister for Health and Greg Combet will become Minister for Industry and Innovation, replacing Kim Carr, it was announced by the Premier.
