Anthem is pulling out of health insurance exchanges in Wisconsin and Indiana, a decision cheered by Republicans as another harbinger of doom for Obamacare.
The move, which follows healthcare giant Humana’s complete withdrawal of plans from state exchanges earlier in the year, strikes at the core of the Affordable Care Act, threatening to undermine one of its key provisions.
However, it’s not as bad as it could have been for supporters of the legislation. Anthem, which currently has over 800,000 members enrolled through exchanges in 14 states, was rumored to be exiting the program more comprehensively.
