ABPI hits back at Corbyn criticism of pharma

The Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) has hit back after the leader of the Labour Party said pharmaceutical companies should not be allowed to become ‘too dominant’ over the National Health Service (NHS).

Jeremy Corbyn was delivering a speech at University College London this morning to launch his leadership campaign against challenger Owen Smith.

In answer to a question about Mr Smith’s former employment as a drug company lobbyist, Mr Corbyn said medical research should be ‘funded through the Medical Research Council (MRC) and not farmed out to big pharmaceutical companies like Pfizer.’
