The US Food and Drug Administration is asking for a total budget of $8.4 billion for 2023, up by a third from the previous year.
The agency says it needs the money to enable “critical public health modernization, core food safety and medical product safety programs.”
The request also includes $1.6 billion in mandatory funding, which would be earmarked for use in supporting the FDA’s ability to prepare for future pandemics.
