Niro of Denmark is investing massively in an expansion of its test center at its Copenhagen head office, with new funding from the GEA Group. When complete, the facility will be the largest of its type in Europe, with over 35 different pilot plants available for its customers' use.
The test center already has a huge range of equipment for process and product evaluation including: spray drying, freeze drying, extraction, agglomeration and laboratory facilities. Over the next six months, however, it will be expanded with additional equipment including: swirl fluidizer and spray fluidizer technology specifically for drying pastes; filter cakes; and highly viscous liquids.
Niro also has a separate pharmaceutical test center at the Copenhagen site operating under full Good Manufacturing Practice standards and approved by the Danish Medical Board for the production of drugs for clinical trials. It has a clean room rating of 100,000 and the process control is full 21 CFR part 11 compliant. Equipment there includes PSD 4, PSD 1 and SD Micro to provide the widest possible range of spray drying technology for realistic testing and easy scale-up to full production.
