The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the ongoing surge of mpox cases in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and other African countries a public health emergency of global concern.
The WHO is concerned about the emergence of a new strain in eastern DRC, which poses a significant threat.
In the past month, over 100 cases of the new strain have been confirmed in neighboring countries that have not previously reported mpox, including Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda.
