MHRA approves first generic of HIV drug raltegravir

The UK’s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) on Friday approved the first generic raltegravir medicines to treat adult and pediatric HIV patients who weigh at least 40kg.

The new marketing authorization was granted to the UK subsidiaries of India’s Lupin (BSE: 500257) and Czech Republic-based Zentiva.

Raltegravir is the active ingredient of US pharma giant Merck & Co’s (NYSE: MRK) Isentress.
