Year-on-year exports by Taiwan's pharmaceutical industry for the third quarter of this year saw a rise of 6.2% to total New Taiwan $3.42 billion ($113 million) on the back of rising demand for western medicines, according to government report released over the weekend and reported by the Central News Agency (CNA).
The report from the Industry and Technology Intelligence Service (ITIS) noted that exports of Taiwan-made western medicines in the three month period rose 11.0% from a year earlier to NT$1.72 billion. It said exports of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) from Taiwan edged up 1.3% to NT$1.58 billion, while the island's exports of Chinese medicines increased 9.1% NT$120 million.
