The Philippines Department of Health Foods and Drugs Administration (PFDA) today (September 19) launched the Generics Awareness Month celebration with the theme “Generics Pangkalusugan, Gamot Pangkalahatan” (Health, General Medicine).
Sonia Cabahit, head of the PFDA, said that the month-long celebration aims to raise public awareness on generic drugs, which are more affordable but safe and quality medicines.
Dr Cabahit added that the celebration also reminds medical professionals and businesses, especially government hospitals, to abide by the Generics Law or RA 9502 which mandates government and all those employed by the government such as retained hospitals and its medical practitioners the use of generic terminologies in transactions relating to prescribing, dispensing and administering medicines to patients.
