India aims to make its API industry self-reliant

India's Department of Pharmaceuticals (DoP) is seeking innovative technologies to reduce the cost of producing Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) that are currently imported.

An organization has been tasked with identifying API production gaps and challenges and developing novel solutions to these challenges, reports The Pharma Letter’s India correspondent.

The Department of Pharmaceuticals is working towards creating a roadmap for India's API production ecosystem, which will outline the steps to be taken to strengthen the industry, improve competitiveness, and ensure the availability of quality APIs for domestic and global markets. The roadmap will also address the need for collaboration and cooperation among stakeholders.
