Highlights of EMA/CHMP May meeting

The European Medicines Agency’s Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) recommended six medicines for approval at its May meeting.

Anglo-Swedish pharma major AstraZeneca’s (LSE: AZN)Qtern (saxagliptin/dapagliflozin) received a positive opinion from the CHMP for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Three generic medicines received a positive opinion from the Committee: Bortezomib Hospira (bortezomib) from Pfizer (NYSE: PFE) subsidiary Hospira, and Bortezomib Sun (bortezomib) from India’s Sun Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of multiple myeloma and mantle cell lymphoma, and Pemetrexed Fresenius Kabi (pemetrexed) Fresenius Kabi for the treatment of unresectable malignant pleural mesothelioma and locally advanced or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer.
