Poland's Family Development Society has said the decision taken by theMinistry of Finance to stop subsidizing the prices of contraceptive pills will put this method of birth control out of reach for many women, according to the PAP news agency.
On March 23, a Health Ministry regulation took effect changing the list of medicines whose prices are subject to state subsidies. Five hormonal contraceptives have been removed from the list, while three others have been retained, but will see their prices double. Around 500,000 women in Poland are said to use contraceptive pills.
