BRIEF—Eli Lilly gains China approval for obesity drug

US pharm major Eli Lilly on Friday revealed via a social media posting that it has been granted approval from the Chinese National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) to sell tirzepatide for weight loss in the country.

Tirzepatide is the active ingredient in Lilly’s injectable diabetes drug Mounjaro and weight-loss drug Zepbound.

Mounjaro was previously approved in China for diabetes treatment.
