US House of Representatives passes BIOSECURE Act

The US House of Representatives has passed the BIOSECURE Act, gaining bipartisan support with a vote of 306–81. Nearly all of the votes against the bill came from Democrats.

First introduced in January, the legislation targets biotechnology companies with ties to the Chinese Communist Party, naming five genomic firms of concern, including BGI and WuXi.

While the bill was subsequently delayed in its legislative progress, House Speaker Mike Johnson vowed in July to bring forward a vote.
