The first three state-of-the-art manufacturing research centers ' including one impacting on biotechnology - funded under a new £70 million ($113 million) UK government investment will be based at Southampton, Loughborough and Brunel universities, to help UK businesses develop the technology products of the future and underpin manufacturing growth, Business Secretary Lord Peter Mandelson announced yesterday.
The three new Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) centers will focus research efforts in the fields of:
' Photonics (the science and application of light using optical fibers to revolutionize the internet and telecommunications) at Southampton;
