Europe’s largest biotech firm has released positive clinical trial results with its investigational drug for the treatment of a pulmonary hypertension condition.
Actelion (SIX: ATLN) has announced that the MERIT study to assess the efficacy, safety and tolerability of macitentan in patients with inoperable chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH; Pulmonary hypertension group 4) has met its primary endpoint.
Macitentan is already marketed for pulmonary hypertension under the trade name Opsumit, and generated sales of 596 million Swiss francs ($616 million) in the first nine months of this year.
