Merck and Moderna collaborate on combining personalized cancer vaccines with Keytruda

US pharma giant Merck & Co (NYSE:MRK) and privately-held US biotech firm Moderna Therapeutics have entered into a new strategic collaboration and license agreement to develop and commercialize novel messenger RNA (mRNA)-based personalized cancer vaccines.

The collaboration will combine Merck’s established leadership in immuno-oncology with Moderna’s pioneering mRNA vaccine technology and GMP manufacturing capabilities to advance individually tailored cancer vaccines for patients across a spectrum of cancers.

In January last year, the two companies signed a license and collaboration agreement for the discovery and development of vaccines and passive immunity treatments against viral diseases using modified messenger RNA (mRNA).
