Iterum hopeful despite Phase III miss for sulopenem

Ireland-incorporated superbug specialist Iterum Therapeutics (Nasdaq: ITRM) has announced disappointing top-line results from the pivotal SURE 3 study of the novel antibiotic sulopenem.

The firm is focused on developing oral and IV penem antibiotics to treat infections caused by multidrug resistant pathogens, in both community and hospital settings.

Iterum is testing sulopenem in complicated intra-abdominal infections (cIAI).
