Vaccines Europe, a trade group representing vaccines manufacturers in Europe, warns that vaccines have become “a victim of their own success,” as the absence of severe diseases has created a perception that vaccination is no longer necessary.
Writing in a blog post, the group’s president, Pascale Mauran, provided his view on a proposal to convene a new coalition for vaccination bringing together European associations of healthcare workers, with the aim of increasing vaccination coverage in Europe.
Outbreaks of preventable diseases such as measles in Italy, Germany and other parts of Europe have exacerbated concerns about flagging vaccination rates.
