In order to spur research and innovation in the pharmaceutical industry, the Narendra Modi government in India is developing a new policy that will cater to a range of therapies - from gene therapy to precision medicine.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the launch of a new program to promote research and innovation in pharmaceuticals through centers of excellence in her budget speech.
The policy is expected to cover several key areas, including R&D, manufacturing, regulation, and access. The program is being fine-tuned by India's Department of Pharmaceuticals - under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers - with input from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare
