GEMMABio partners with Fiocruz in $100 million gene therapy deal

Gene therapy start-up GEMMA Biotherapeutics (GEMMABio) has announced a significant partnership with Brazil's Fiocruz, a key supplier for the Brazilian Ministry of Health.

The deal, worth up to $100 million, aims to develop and deliver gene therapy treatments to Brazil’s public healthcare system.

The Philadelphia-based company, which began life at the University of Pennsylvania’s Gene Therapy Program, was founded just a few months ago, adding to a series of successful spin-offs from the institute.
