A trade group representing France’s biotech industry has issued a warning about the protectionist policies proposed by one of the candidates standing in Sunday’s French presidential election.
Far-right candidate Marine Le Pen is hoping to defy the polls by beating centrist Emmanuel Macron of En Marche! in the vote after the two made it through the first round of voting last month.
Although Ms Le Pen has stepped down as leader of the hardline Front National (FN) party in an attempt to unite voters, this is only a temporary stance and her campaign continues to prioritize the perceived national interest of France with policies such as imposing tighter controls on national borders and immigration and a potential ‘Frexit’ and return to the French franc currency.
