UK pharma major AstraZeneca (LSE: AZN) today revealed that Imfinzi (durvalumab) and Imjudo (tremelimumab) immunotherapy combinations have been approved in the European Union (EU) for the treatment of advanced liver and lung cancers.

The approvals authorize the combination for the first-line treatment of adult patients with advanced or unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and Imfinzi/Imjudo and platinum-based chemotherapy for the treatment of adult patients with metastatic (Stage IV) non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

The two approvals by the European Commission follow positive recommendations by the European Medicines Agency’s human medicines committee (CHMP) in December 2022 and are based on positive results from the  HIMALAYA Phase III trial, and the POSEIDON Phase III trial.
