A UK government report on trends in the life sciences from 2009 to 2017 has found that the sector was broadly characterized by steady growth in terms of business numbers, jobs and turnover.
The report showed that the number of businesses grew from 5,150 to 5,880, a 7% rise, while jobs increased by 17,900, a jump of 8%, over the nine-year period.
The industry generated £70.8 billion ($90 billion) in turnover in 2017, an increase of 1.7% from 2009.
