Celgene and Acceleron file BLA for luspatercept

US biotech major Celgene (Nasdaq: CELG) and Acceleron Pharma (Nasdaq: XLRN) today announced that Celgene has submitted a Biologics License Application (BLA) for luspatercept,

The drug is an erythroid maturation agent, intended for the treatment of adult patients with very low to intermediate risk myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS)-associated anemia who have ring sideroblasts and require red blood cell (RBC) transfusions and for the treatment of adult patients with beta-thalassemia-associated anemia who require RBC transfusions.

Shares of Acceleron moved 1.8% higher to $47.17 on the news, while Celgene closed Friday up just 0.46% at $94.80.
