Asahi Kasei Medical's US subsidiary Bionova Scientific, a full-service biologics CDMO, has decided to launch a new business line providing services leveraging plasmid DNA, and establish a dedicated facility for this purpose in Texas, USA, with a $100 million investment.
The expansion is part of a previously announced long-term strategic initiative by the company – supported by the Asahi Kasei Group – to broaden its services portfolio to cover an even wider range of technical capabilities and therapeutic modalities, in response to diversifying customer requests. Good manufacturing practice (GMP) manufacturing is planned for early 2026.
As part of its growth into the pharma sector, Asahi Kasei last month announced plans to acquire Sweden’s Calliditas Therapeutics (Nasdaq Stockholm: CALT) for around $1.12 billion.
