AstraZeneca and BenevolentAI to work together on AI-driven drug discovery

UK-based AstraZeneca (LSE: AZN) has entered into a collaboration with BenevolentAI to use artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning for the discovery and development of new treatments for chronic kidney disease (CKD) and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF).

The firms will work together to combine AstraZeneca’s genomics, chemistry and clinical data with BenevolentAI’s target identification platform and biomedical knowledge graph.

Last year, BenevolentAI raised $115 million in a financing round that was one of the largest to date in the growing AI pharma sector. That took fundraising for the firm to more than $200 million since 2013.
