£1.25 billion buttress for British innovators in pandemic

The UK government has announced a £1.25 billion ($1.56 billion) support package for innovative businesses during the coronavirus outbreak.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak said the targeted help, which would be available for high tech firms including life sciences companies, would enable the sector to keep working through the crisis.

The package includes a new £500 million loan scheme and £750 million for small and medium sized businesses focused on research and development.
