Vertex and Kymera partner on protein degraders

US drugmaker Vertex Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq: VRTX) and biotech firm Kymera Therapeutics have entered into a four-year strategic research and development collaboration to advance small molecule protein degraders against multiple targets.

This is the second major deal for Kymera, which last year linked up with UK pharma major GlaxoSmithKline (LSE: GSK) to work together on a limited number of protein degradation targets of mutual interest.

The collaboration will leverage Kymera’s expertise in targeted protein degradation and its proprietary Pegasus drug discovery platform and Vertex’s scientific, clinical, and regulatory capabilities to accelerate the development of first-in-class medicines for people with serious diseases.
