Mid-stage results bring new high for Vertex

So far 2017 has been something of a golden year for US biotech firm Vertex Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq: VRTX), but it got even better today, with news on positive data from Phase I and II trials in cystic fibrosis (CF).

That data relates to studies of three different triple combination regimens, combining new treatments with Kalydeco (ivacaftor) and tezacaftor, in people with CF who have one F508del mutation and one minimal function mutation (F508del/Min).

These are the first data to demonstrate the potential to treat the underlying cause of CF in these patients, who have a severe and difficult-to-treat type of the disease.
