GSK unveils SARS vaccine plans
GlaxoSmithKline says it has joined the ranks of companies pursuingtreatment and prevention options for severe acute respiratory syndrome (see also page 21).
The company's chief executive, Jean-Pierre Garnier, told a conference call on its first-quarter results (page 2) that it has initiated a program to develop a vaccine against the disease, whilst warning this will take several years to reach fruition. GSK has pledged to work with other vaccine companies to answer the threat of SARS.
