Fourth New York county sues over opioid addiction epidemic

Another New York county has filed a lawsuit against pharma companies and physicians over what it calls ‘aggressive and fraudulent marketing of prescription opium-like painkillers.’

Orange County, which blames these opioids for significant public health concerns and the expenditure of taxpayer funds, is the fourth in the state to do so, following in the footsteps of Suffolk, Broome and Erie.

Steven Neuhaus, Orange County executive, said: “I have met people across the county who have shared their stories about how opioids have caused addiction-related problems for themselves or their friends and families.
