Express Scripts' GenericsWork program

13 June 2004

US pharmacy benefit manager Express Scripts has developed GenericsWork, a new program to help prescription benefit plan sponsors to save money through greater generic drug utilization without shifting costs to consumer members of their plans.

GenericsWork is built around Express Scripts' generics-based High Performance Formulary. It also includes educational tools on the clinical and economic value of generics.

Plan sponsors that implement GenericsWork will see their generic dispensing rate rise to some 70% of all drugs dispensed, says the PBM. Their annual drug cost trend (the increase in overall drug costs) will also be less than 5% for each of the next three years and they can elect to link their payments to Express Scripts to their annual trend under this program.
