US pharma industry launches charm offensive

The US pharmaceutical industry has launched a new offensive in the ongoing battle for the hearts and minds of patients, policymakers and customers.

While drug companies have long faced skepticism from a general public that looks askance at the trillion dollar pharmaceutical market, the latest information campaign can be seen as a particular response to President Donald Trump’s recent chilly remarks on drug pricing.

The campaign, announced by industry trade body Pharmaceutical and Research Manufacturers of America (PhRMA), will center around two slick new websites that invoke the spirit of discovery and champion the accomplishments of medical science.
